Service Description
The Pillow Book is a brilliant and important work of literature from 1000 years ago that is still fresh reading today. Borges liked it. We will take some of Sei Shonagon’s categories and paint our own lists of things we find beautiful together, things that make the heart grow fonder, hateful things (she found sneezing vulgar), brief ephemera worth remembering, the passing of the seasons, how people should really behave, pleasing things, boring things, elegant things, splendid things, rare things, things that give a splendid impression, things that people despise, embarrassing things, awkward things, things that should not be seen by firelight, things that are unpleasant to hear, things that should be large, things that arouse a fond memory of the past, how your servants really ought to be dressed, how oxen should really have small foreheads, things that make the heart beat faster, annoying things, clouds, clear mornings (she was into bright mornings - see Thousand Petalled Lotus class later), men with strange emotions, people who get absurdly angry, things that are near - yet far, adorable things, infuriating things and unsuitable things. This Borgesian list class can be paired with the upcoming Miscellany of Marvels.
